Capture a frame

Take one frame from any moment as an image.

Drop the video to take a frame from

MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV. Up to 10 minutes, 2 GB.

A cover image, a thumbnail, a still of one moment. Taking the frame from the source beats playing the video and screenshotting it: a screenshot is limited by your display, this frame is at the video’s own resolution.

Pick the second with the slider, and the engine decodes that frame and hands it over as an image. A 4K source gives a 4K still.

Your video is never uploaded. The work happens inside the browser, on your own device, and the page keeps working offline once it has loaded. So there is no upload to wait for, no queue, and no file sitting on somebody else’s server afterwards.

For a thumbnail: platforms generally want 16:9. Resizing the video to 16:9 first and then taking a frame is often more useful than taking one straight from a vertical video.

Files up to 10 minutes and 2 GB. That is not a plan limit - it is what an ordinary laptop or phone handles comfortably. Trim a longer video first.

Common questions

What format is it?
PNG, which is lossless - what you want for a thumbnail or a cover.
What resolution?
The video’s own. A 4K source gives a 4K frame.
How do I find the exact frame?
The slider steps in tenths of a second. For finer control, open the video in the editor and step the playhead frame by frame.
Can I take several frames?
Change the time and run it again; each run downloads another image.
