Every platform wants a different shape: 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts; 1:1 or 4:5 for an Instagram post; 16:9 for YouTube. Publishing a landscape video vertically, or the other way round, raises the same problem every time.

There are two layouts and neither suits every clip. Fill covers the frame and crops the sides - good when the subject is centred, bad when a face sits near the edge. Fit keeps the whole picture and puts a blurred copy of it behind - nothing is lost, but the picture is smaller.

Which is right depends on the framing. One face in the middle: fill. Two people at the edges: fit.

Your video is never uploaded. The work happens inside the browser, on your own device, and the page keeps working offline once it has loaded. So there is no upload to wait for, no queue, and no file sitting on somebody else’s server afterwards.

Output is 1080 pixels on the short side - 1080x1920 for 9:16, 1080x1080 for 1:1. That is what the platforms ask for.

Files up to 10 minutes and 2 GB. That is not a plan limit - it is what an ordinary laptop or phone handles comfortably. Trim a longer video first.

Common questions

Fill or fit?
Fill if what matters is in the middle. Fit if something near the edges would be lost.
Where does the blurred background come from?
From the video itself: the frame is scaled up and blurred behind, so the colours match.
Does the resolution drop?
Sources under 1080 pixels are not upscaled. Larger ones come down to 1080.
Can I export several shapes at once?
On Pro, the editor’s "all formats" option writes 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 and 16:9 in one run.
