MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV. Up to 10 minutes, 2 GB.

MP4 opens everywhere: phones, televisions, social platforms, older software. WebM is more efficient on the web - usually a smaller file at the same quality - but some older devices and programs cannot open it.

The rule is simple: MP4 if you are uploading it or sending it to someone, WebM if you are serving it from your own site.

MOV and MKV files can be written out as either. MOV files from an iPhone are usually HEVC; if your browser can decode that, conversion just works, and if it cannot, the page says so in one sentence.

Your video is never uploaded. The work happens inside the browser, on your own device, and the page keeps working offline once it has loaded. So there is no upload to wait for, no queue, and no file sitting on somebody else’s server afterwards.

Files up to 10 minutes and 2 GB. That is not a plan limit - it is what an ordinary laptop or phone handles comfortably. Trim a longer video first.

Common questions

Can I open an AVI, WMV or FLV file?
No. Browsers cannot decode those older containers. Convert to MP4 with another program first.
My MOV will not open - why?
It is probably HEVC and your browser does not support it. Try Chrome, Edge or Safari, or set your camera to the "Most Compatible" format.
Does converting lose quality?
The video is re-encoded, so slightly. The default bitrate is chosen so you will not see it.
Which is smaller?
Usually WebM at the same quality. MP4 is more compatible.
