How to remove a video background without a green screen

No green screen needed: a model on your device finds the person in every frame and drops the rest. Then you choose what goes behind.

Steps

  1. Open the video

Open the editor and press "Choose a file", or drop the video onto the drop area. Click the clip on the timeline to open its settings.

  2. Turn on "Remove the background"

On the "Video" tab, open "Background" and turn on "Remove the background". The browser downloads the model when you switch it on; the model then runs on your device, and the video itself is never sent anywhere.

  3. Choose what goes behind

Where the background was, the canvas now shows. For a plain colour, click "Canvas" in the left panel list, set "Background" to "Flat colour" and pick the colour next to "Colour". For a video behind the person, add it, drag it down onto the dashed row that says "Drop files here or click to add" so it gets its own row under the first, and drag it left until both start together.

  4. Place the person

Click the person’s clip again. Under "Layout", use "Scale", "Horizontal" and "Vertical" to size and place them, or drag the clip on the preview.

  5. Export

Press "Export" and pick MP4. The export cuts out the person frame by frame, the same as the preview. On the free plan exports go up to 1080p and 3 minutes, without a watermark.
