How to put two videos one above the other in a vertical video

A vertical frame has room for two landscape videos, one on top of the other. Six steps, and both files stay on your computer.

Steps

  1. Open both videos

Open the editor and press "Choose a file", or drop the first video onto the drop area. Add the second the same way. It lands after the first one on the same row, so for now they play one after the other.

  2. Give the second video its own row

Drag the second clip down onto the dashed row under the tracks, the one that says "Drop files here or click to add". Let go there and it gets a new video track of its own. Dragging a clip near the top or bottom edge of a row does the same, with a line showing where the new row goes in.

  3. Line them up

Drag the clip on the new row to the left until it starts where the first one starts; it snaps to the start and to the other clip’s edges. Now both play at the same time. The upper row is in front, which decides which video goes on top in the next step.

  4. Choose "Stacked"

Click either video on the timeline. In the clip settings, on the "Video" tab, open "Ready layouts" and press "Stacked". The video on the upper row fills the top half of the frame and the other fills the bottom half, each cropped from the centre so there are no black bars.

  5. Fine-tune the frame

Drag a video on the preview to move it, or drag a corner to resize it. Lines appear when an edge meets the centre or the frame edge. "Side by side", "Small in a corner" and "Full frame" are in the same place if you change your mind; Ctrl+Z undoes the layout.

  6. Decide whose sound plays, then export

Usually only one video should be heard. Press "Mute" (the speaker button) in the header of the other video’s track. Then press "Export" and pick MP4. On the free plan exports go up to 1080p and 3 minutes, without a watermark.
