How to add music to a video in the browser
Music goes on a row of its own under the video, so you can move it, trim it and turn it down without touching the picture. Both files stay on your computer.
Steps
Open the video, then the music
Open the editor and press "Choose a file", or drop the video onto the drop area. Then open "Media" in the left panel list, press "Add a file" and pick the music: MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG and FLAC all open. You can also pick the video and the song together.
Find it on the sound row
A file with no picture goes on the sound row at the bottom of the timeline, starting at the beginning, so it plays under the video rather than after it. Drag it left or right to move where it starts; it never covers the picture.
Set the volume
Click the music clip. In the clip settings, open the "Audio" tab; under "Time and sound", drag "Volume" down until the music sits under the voice instead of on top of it. Press Space to listen while you adjust.
Fade it in and out
In the same place, type a number of seconds into "Fade in" and "Fade out", for example 1 and 2. The music then rises at the start and dies away at the end instead of starting and stopping abruptly.
Lower it under the voice, trim it and export
If someone talks in the video, click the video clip, open "Smart" and press "Lower music under speech": the music dips while they talk and comes back when they stop. If the song runs longer than the video, drag the right edge of the music clip back to where the video ends. Then press "Export" and pick MP4. On the free plan exports go up to 1080p and 3 minutes, without a watermark.
Tips
- If only the music should be heard, press "Mute" (the speaker button) in the header of the video’s track, or select the video and turn its own "Volume" down.
- The fade out follows the end of the clip: trim the music later and the fade moves with it.
- Use music you have the rights to; platforms can mute or block a video over a song they recognise.
