How to join videos and add transitions between them

Line the clips up end to end on one row and give each cut a transition. Six steps, and the files never leave your computer.

Steps

  1. Open the first video

Open the editor and drop the first video onto the drop area, or press "Choose a file". It lands at the start of the video track.

  2. Add the rest

Open "Media" in the left panel list and press "Add a file", or click the dashed row under the tracks ("Drop files here or click to add"). Each video lands at the end of the video row, touching the one before it. You can pick several at once; they line up one after another. To change the order later, drag a clip along the row.

  3. Select the clip the transition leads into

A transition belongs to the clip it opens into. Click the second clip, then press "Transition" in the left panel list (it is greyed out until a clip is selected). The "Transition" section opens in the clip settings, on the "Video" tab.

  4. Pick a transition and set its length

Choose "Crossfade", "Dip to black", "Dip to white", one of the four slides or four wipes, "Circle opens", "Circle closes", "Zoom in" or "Blur through"; "None" takes it off. Once one is picked, "Transition length" appears under the list: 0.1 to 3 seconds, starting at 0.5. Play across the cut to check it, then do the same for each clip after it.

  5. If the clip is not touching the one before

If the section says "A transition needs a clip touching this one in front of it." instead, there is a gap, or this is the first clip. Drag the clip left until it snaps against the end of the previous one, and the list of transitions appears. When you delete a piece, Shift+Delete removes it and closes the gap, so no gap is left behind.

  6. Export

The preview and the export draw the same picture. Press "Export" and pick MP4; all the clips come out as one file. On the free plan exports go up to 1080p and 3 minutes, without a watermark.
