How to speed up or slow down a video

Speed up the slow part, slow down the moment that matters. One slider for a steady speed, a ramp for a change the viewer can see.

Steps

  1. Open the video and pick the part

Open the editor and drop the video, or press "Choose a file". To change only part of it, put the playhead where that part starts and press S (or "Split"), then do the same where it ends. Click the piece you want to change.

  2. Set the speed

In the clip settings, open the "Audio" tab, then "Time and sound". Drag "Speed" anywhere from 0.25× to 4×: 2× plays twice as fast, 0.5× half as fast. The clip gets shorter or longer on the timeline to match, and "Length" at the top of the settings changes with it.

  3. Listen to the sound

The sound changes speed with the picture, so its pitch moves too: voices go higher when sped up and deeper when slowed down. If that does not suit the clip, turn its "Volume" down on the same tab.

  4. Or ramp the speed

For a change you can see, like slow motion easing into normal speed, open the "Video" tab, then "Speed", and turn on "Speed ramp". Set "From" and "To". The change happens at the start of the clip, over its first second (less on a clip under three seconds), and the clip carries on at the "To" speed. To start the ramp later, split the clip there first.

  5. Export

Press "Export", pick MP4 and a resolution, and the file downloads when it is done. On the free plan exports go up to 1080p and 3 minutes, without a watermark.
